12 September, 2017

On September 12, Levon Martirosyan, Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to Canada, presented his credentials to His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada. The Governor General-designate Julie Payette also attended the solemn ceremony, which took place in the Governor General’s residence in the city of Quebec. The Governor General-designate will assume the office on October 2.

Governor General Johnston congratulated Ambassador Martirosyan on the appointment and wished him success in his mission to further develop the Armenian-Canadian bilateral relations.

In his speech, David Johnston noted: “This year, Canada and Armenia celebrated 25 years of bilateral relations. This anniversary is a good opportunity to look at how we can expand our bonds. In recent years, our governments have been in close contact through a number of high-level visits to both countries. Canada was also delighted that Armenia was successful in its bid to host the annual Francophonie Summit in 2018. Close dialogue is essential in forging new and stronger ties with each other, which is where your focus will no doubt lie during your time here.”

Ambassador Martirosyan expressed gratitude for the reception and warm wishes and assured that he will spare no efforts to further advance the development of relations between the two friendly countries.

During a tête-à-tête talk, that followed the ceremony, the sides discussed a wide range of issues of the Armenian-Canadian bilateral agenda, by outlining the upcoming programmes of cooperation.
