Event dedicated to the 26th anniversary of the Independence Day of Armenia

On September 24, an official reception took place in the Embassy of Armenia to Egypt, dedicated to the 26th anniversary of Independence Day of the Republic of Armenia and the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Armenia and Egypt.

High-ranking state officials, members of parliament, Ambassadors and diplomats, political and public figures, businessmen, reporters, and members of the Armenian community in Egypt attended the event.

Armen Melkonian, Ambassador of Armenia to Egypt, delivered welcoming remarks, in which he presented the achievements of Armenia since the independence and the existing challenges. Reflecting on 25 years of interstate relations between Armenia and Egypt, Ambassador emphasized that those relations are based on rich historical and cultural traditions and strong friendship between the two ancient peoples. Ambassador Melkonian said: “In the past few years, many significant changes have been implemented both in Armenia and Egypt, which create many opportunities for more effective and dynamic, mutually beneficial trade and economic cooperation between our two countries.”

In his remarks Ehab Nasser, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Egypt, positively assessed the achievements of the previous years and highlighted the fifth session of the Intergovernmental Commission to be held in Yerevan in the upcoming days as a new stage of cooperation between Armenia and Egypt. Ehab Nasser emphasized the significant contribution of Armenian Egyptians to the construction of a new Egyptian statehood in the 19th century, as well as their involvement in today’s public life.

The day before, Mahmoud Adel Mokhtar, the Personal Representative of the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, visited the Armenian Embassy to convey to Armen Melkonian the warm congratulations and good wishes of Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, addressed to Serzh Sargsyan, President of the Republic of Armenia, and the friendly Armenian people on the occasion of the Independence Day of Armenia.
