Deputy Foreign Minister Ashot Hovakimian met with Dainius Puras, UN Special Rapporteur

On September 25, in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, Deputy Foreign Minister Ashot Hovakimian had a meeting with Dainius Puras, Special Rapporteur on the right of everyone to the enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health.

Welcoming the guest, Deputy Minister Hovakimyan presented the progress in the human rights field registered in recent years in Armenia, as well as the reforms implemented in the aftermath of the Constitutional changes.

Deputy Minister reaffirmed Armenia’s readiness to continue cooperation with UN structures, including special procedures, treaty bodies and other monitoring mechanisms, drawing attention in this regard to the fact that back in 2006 Armenia sent an open invitation to all UN thematic procedures.

Information note: The special procedures of the UN Human Rights Council are independent human rights experts with mandates to report and advise on human rights from a thematic or country-specific perspective. The system of Special Procedures is a central element of the United Nations human rights machinery and covers all human rights: civil, cultural, economic, political, and social. As of 1 August 2017, there are 44 thematic and 12 country mandates.
