Consultations of Foreign Ministries of CIS member states in Yerevan

On October 27, Foreign Ministry of Armenia hosted consultations with participation of representatives of Foreign Ministries of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Russia, as well as CIS Executive Secretariat. The topics of the consultations were: "The cooperation between the CIS member states and the European Union" and "The cooperation of the CIS member states in the OSCE on the issues of European security".

In his opening remarks, Garen Nazarian, Deputy Foreign Minister, highlighted the importance of the format of consultations that being held between the Foreign Ministries of the CIS member states for two decades already, noting that it provides an opportunity to exchange views on a wide range of foreign policy issues. He touched upon Armenia's cooperation with the EU and other European structures, adding that it is in line with the commitments undertaken by Armenia earlier in different integration formats. The participants expressed their support for a possible dialogue between the EAEU and the EU, which will boost trade and economic cooperation between the two structures.

Deputy Foreign Minister Ashot Hovakimian delivered an opening remarks in the second part of the consultations. He highlighted the cooperation between the CIS member states in all three OSCE dimensions.

The participants touched upon the issues of strengthening the conventional arms control regime, overcoming through economic interconnection the dividing lines and closed borders in the OSCE area, protecting human social, economic and cultural rights, and the activities of OSCE institutions.

Within the framework of the consultations, the delegations of the CIS countries also met with Deputy Foreign Minister Shavarsh Kocharyan. An agreement was reached to continue the tradition of conducting consultations as an effective tool of political collaboration.
