Meeting of Deputy Foreign Minister Ashot Hovakimian with the Head of delegation of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies in Armenia

On December 14, Deputy Foreign Minister Ashot Hovakimian received the delegation headed by Max Santner, the newly appointed head of the delegation of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies for the South Caucasus (residence in Tbilisi).

Welcoming the guest, the Deputy Foreign Minister highlighted the importance of the visit of the delegation to Armenia in the context of the resumption of Federation’s activities in Armenia, which include management of natural disasters, elimination of their consequences, control and prevention of epidemics, etc.

Deputy Minister Ashot Hovakimian noted the close cooperation of the Armenian authorities with the International Committee of the Red Cross and the Armenian Red Cross Society and expressed hope that the re-opening of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Federation’s South Caucasus Office will promote the expansion of that cooperation.

Expressing gratitude for the reception, Max Santner presented to the Deputy Foreign Minister in details the mission and functions of the office.

Reference. The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies is an international non-governmental humanitarian aid organization, headquartered in Geneva, which is comprised of the Red Cross National Societies of 190 countries, including the Armenian Red Cross. The Federation, along with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the above-mentioned 190 national societies, is regarded as one of the three components of the International Red Cross Movement. In 2002-2014 the Federation had its representative in Armenia.
