Meeting of Ambassador Sergey Minasyan and Romanian Foreign Minister

On January 25, Romanian Foreign Minister Teodor Meleșcanu received Armenian Ambassador Sergey Minasyan.

Welcoming the newly-appointed Ambassador, Foreign Minister of Romania wished him a fruitful tenure. Teodor Meleșcanu noted with satisfaction that Romania was among first countries to recognize Armenia's independence and establish diplomatic relations.

Minister attached importance to the role of the Armenian community of Romania, which continues to be actively involved in the strengthening of bilateral relations, as well as in preserving the Armenian identity, promoting Armenian history and culture.

Touching upon the signing of the Armenia-EU Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement in Brussels last November, Ambassador Minasyan noted that it creates a favourable opportunity for deepening cooperation in bilateral and multilateral dimensions.

The interlocutors discussed the issue of Romania's participation in the Summit of la Francophonie to be held in Yerevan in October 2018.

The sides touched upon the issues related to bilateral relations. They underlined the importance of strengthening inter-parliamentary ties, promoting bilateral economic relations, developing cooperation in the areas of culture and education, amd highlighted the decentralized cooperation, as well as intensification of contacts in defense and security spheres.

At the end of the meeting, the Armenian Ambassador touched upon two significant jubilees, which Armenia and Romania celebrate this year - the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the First Republic of Armenia and the 100th anniversary of the unification of Romania.

Expressing gratitude to Minister Meleșcanu for an in-depth discussions, Ambassador Minasyan expressed hope that both the Minister and the Foreign Ministry will assist him throughout his diplomatic mission.
