Meeting of Foreign Minister of Armenia and the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights

Foreign Minister of Armenia Edward Nalbandian, while on a working visit in Geneva, had a meeting with the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein.

Welcoming the Foreign Minister of Armenia, High Commissioner Al Hussein highly assessed the consistent efforts of Armenia aimed at protecting human rights and welcomed Armenia's initiatives on the prevention of genocides and crimes against humanity.

Minister Nalbandian presented to Commissioner Al Hussein the new Resolution on the Genocide Prevention initiated by Armenia at the 37th session of the Human Rights Council on the occasion of 70th anniversary of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide.

The agenda of the meeting included the issues of the process of constitutional reforms in Armenia and the transition to the parliamentary system of governance.

Minister Nalbandian reaffirmed the commitment of Armenia to further strengthen democratic institutions, the rule of law, judiciary, and effective governance, as well as to continue reforms, relying on the support of partners, including the UN.

During the meeting, the sides touched upon the situation in the Middle East and the resulting flow of refugees. In this regard, the UN High Commissioner positively assessed Armenia's experience in receiving refugees and implementing integration programmes.
