Foreign Minister of Armenia met with the Director-General of the UN Office at Geneva

Foreign Minister of Armenia Edward Nalbandian, who is in Geneva on a working visit, met with Michael Møller, Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

At the meeting, both sides commended the active involvement of Armenia in the activities of the United Nations and its structures.

Foreign Minister and the Director General of the United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG) exchanged views on the agenda of the 37th session of the Human Rights Council, touched upon the initiatives of Armenia on the prevention of genocides and crimes against humanity. In this context, Minister Nalbandian noted that on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, Armenia has come up with an initiative to adopt a new Resolution of the Human Rights Council on the prevention activities of the United Nations and its member states, which contains clear recommendations for action. Minister Nalbandian also informed his interlocutor that, on the occasion of the International Day of Commemoration and Dignity of the Victims of the Crime of Genocide, Armenia is going to organise on December 9 the third Global Forum “Against the Crime of Genocide”, which will focus on the prevention of genocides through education.

The interlocutors touched upon the goals set in the “2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development”, highlighted the importance of their effective implementation and the cooperation of the UN member states towards that end. In this context, Edward Nalbandian briefed hid interlocutor on the involvement of Armenia in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals and the activities carried out in this regard.

At the meeting the sides touched upon the Summit of the International Organization of La Francophonie to be held in Yerevan in October.

Edward Nalbandian briefed Michael Møller on the efforts taken by Armenia and the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chair countries towards the peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
