Working visit of delegation headed by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Ashot Hovakimian to NATO Headquarters to discuss the Armenia-NATO IPAP assessment report

On May 24 the session of the Armenia - NATO Partnership and Cooperative Security Committee was held at NATO Headquarters in Brussels. The Armenian delegation was headed by Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia Ashot Hovakimian. During the session Armenia-NATO Individual Partnership Action Plan (IPAP) 2017 assessment report was discussed.

Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia Hovakimian presented in his speech the recent political developments in Armenia, stressing that the priorities of Armenia's foreign and security policy remain unchanged and Armenia is committed to fulfilling all its international obligations. It was noted in this context that Armenia, while being a member of the Collective Security Treaty Organization and of the Eurasian Economic Union, at the same time cooperates with the European Union and NATO.

Deputy Minister Hovakimian touched upon the Armenia-NATO collaboration within the IPAP. He underlined the importance of exclusively peaceful settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict.

The representatives of delegations of NATO member states in their speeches highly assessed the implementation of the Armenia-NATO Individual Partnership Action Plan, thanked for the continuous involvement of Armenia in peacekeeping operations in Kosovo and Afghanistan. They also stressed the importance of and expressed satisfaction with the peaceful outcome of the political situation in Armenia. The speakers expressed their support for the efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs towards resolution of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, underlining the importance of the peaceful and negotiated settlement of the issue, based on the principles of non-use of force or threat of force, the equal rights and self-determination of peoples and territorial integrity.

During the meeting Deputy Foreign Minister Hovakimian, as well as the representative of the Defense Ministry of Armenia answered the questions of the NATO member states delegates.

Prior to the meeting, the delegation headed by the Deputy Foreign Minister of the Republic of Armenia Ashot Hovakimian was received by NATO Deputy Secretary General Rose Gottemoeller. Rose Gottemoeller highly appreciated the political dialogue and cooperation with Armenia within the IPAP framework and thanked for the continuous contribution of Armenia to peacekeeping efforts in Kosovo and Afghanistan. During the meeting issues related to Armenia-NATO collaboration were discussed.
