Armenian-Latvian political consultations in Riga
30 May, 2018Օn May 30, political consultations between the Foreign Ministries of Armenia and Latvia were held in Riga. Armenian delegation was headed by Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia Garen Nazarian. Foreign Ministry State Secretary Andrejs Pildegovičs led the Latvian delegation. Tigran Mkrtchyan, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Armenia to Latvia also participated in the consultations.
A wide range of issues related to deepening of Armenian-Latvian relations were discussed during the consultations. Both sides highlighted the prospects of enhancing the bilateral dialogue in political and cultural spheres. A specific attention was paid to the intensification of trade and economic relations, as well as ensuring the continuity of the work of the Armenian-Latvian Intergovernmental Commission.
In the context of development of Armenia-EU relations, Deputy Minister Nazarian particularly emphasized that Latvian Parliament was among the first ones to ratify the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement, and expressed hope that the process of ratification will progress smoothly in other EU member states as well. He added that the implementation of the agreement is among the priorities of the Armenian government.
At the request of the Latvian side, Garen Nazarian presented the approaches of the Armenian side on the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Other issues of regional and international agenda, that were of mutual interest, were also discussed.
