Armenian-Lithuanian political consultations in Vilnius

On May 31, In Vilnius, political consultations between the Foreign Ministries of Armenia and Lithuania were held. The Armenian delegation was led by Deputy Foreign Minister Garen Nazarian, and the Lithuanian delegation was headed by Darius Skusevičius, Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania. Ambassador of Armenia to Lithuania Tigran Mkrtchyan also participated in the consultations.

During the meeting, the Deputy Foreign Ministers attached importance to the historical and cultural ties between the two peoples, pointing out that the recently held in Vilnius large scale cultural event dedicated to the centennial of the two countries attests to it.

A wide range of issues related to deepening of Armenian-Lithuanian relations were discussed during the consultations. Both sides highlighted the prospects for enhancing bilateral political, economic and cultural relations. The sides reaffirmed the need for more often bilateral high-level visits, and more regular sessions of the intergovernmental commission.

In the context of Armenia=EU relations the implementation of the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement was also discussed during the meeting. Garen Nazarian underlined the importance of the implementation of the joint commitments undertaken within the Eastern Partnership, in particular the launch of visa liberalization dialogue, which is under the competence of the EU member states.

The sides also discussed a number of regional and international issues of mutual interest. They touched upon the process of settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict.
