Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia had a meeting with the EU Commissioner for Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship

On June 20, Foreign Minister of Armenia Zohrab Mnatsakanyan, who is in Brussels on a working visit, met with Dimitris Avramopoulos, EU Commissioner for Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship.

Welcoming the Armenian Foreign Minister, Commissioner Avramopoulos reiterated the commitment to work together towards achieving more significant results with regards the issues lying within the area of his responsibility.

The interlocutors discussed the achieved results of implementation of agreements on visa facilitation and readmission. The Armenian Foreign Minister touched upon the role of EU Member States in the implementation of the abovementioned agreements, and presented the continuous efforts to improve Armenia’s migration policy and border management as well as readmission and reintegration capabilities.

The interlocutors underlined the importance of launching visa liberalization dialogue between Armenia and the European Union, set forth in declarations of last Eastern Partnership summits.

The foreign minister underscored the importance of acknowledging the achievements of Armenia attained in close cooperation with the EU and Member States, which will contribute to the acceleration of the process of visa liberalization and freedom of movement dialogue. According to Minister Mnatsakanyan, that process will allow to expand further people-to-people contacts and strengthen the cooperation between Armenia and the EU Member States.
