Zohrab Mnatsakanyan had a meeting with the Antonio Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations
18 July, 2018On July 18, in New York, Zohrab Mnatsakanyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, had a meeting with the Antonio Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations.
Welcoming Zohrab Mnatsakanyan, Antonio Guterres underlined that he is impressed with the revolution in Armenia and the subsequent changes and stressed that the UN is willing to support Armenia’s further development in spheres of importance for our country. The Foreign Minister of Armenia mentioned that Armenia greatly values the multifunctional cooperation unfolded within the UN framework and reaffirmed the great interest of the new government of our country to enrich the joint agenda.
Foreign Minister of Armenia briefed the UN Secretary-General on the recent domestic developments in Armenia, noting that the government's priorities are clear: based on the wide mandate bestowed by the people to implement reforms in the fields of justice, rule of law, granting equal opportunities in economic and social spheres, fight against corruption and all those directions, which are included in the programme and activity of the government of Armenia.
In the context of steps being taken towards organising snap elections, FM Mnatsakanyan underlined the readiness of Armenian authorities to closely cooperate with international partners, including the UNDP, in the process of proper organization of the elections. Antonio Guterres reaffirmed that in this regard Armenia can also rely on the UN's experience and support.
The Foreign Minister of Armenia and the UN Secretary-General exchanged views on the preparations for the 17th Summit of La Francophonie to be held in Armenia.
Referring to the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, FM Mnatsakanyan reaffirmed Armenia’s commitment to the exclusively peaceful settlement of the conflict under the auspices of OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairmanship, noting that for the Armenian side the status and security of Artsakh are of high priority.
FM Mnatsakanyan attached importance of establishing an environment conducive to peace, strictly adhering to ceasefire and rejecting the aggressive rhetorics for the advancement of the negotiations process.
