Deputy Foreign Minister Ashot Hovakimian met with Afshan Khan, UNICEF Regional Director for Europe and Central Asia

On September 26, Deputy Foreign Minister Ashot Hovakimian received Afshan Khan, UNICEF Regional Director for Europe and Central Asia (ECA) and the Special Coordinator for the Refugee and Migrant Response in Europe, and Tanja Radocaj, the Representative of the United Nations Children's Fund in Armenia.

Welcoming the guests, the Deputy Foreign Minister noted that the Armenian authorities highly appreciate the role of the UN Children's Fund in addressing the issues of protection of children's rights in Armenia and improving their health and living conditions. Deputy Minister briefed Afshan Khan on recent political developments in Armenia, the priorities of Armenia, including within the framework of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Throughout the conversation Deputy Minister Hovakimian touched upon the issue of access of children to innovation technologies and presented Armenia's positive experience in this respect. Ashot Hovakimian spoke about the work that are being done towards establishing a coordinating mechanism with the aim of ensuring the implementation of international human rights obligations.

UNICEF Regional Director commended the achievements of Armenia in the field of child protection, as well as presented the new priorities of the Fund.
