Meeting between the Foreign Minister of Armenia and the Speaker of Parliament of Estonia
07 February, 2019On February 7, Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan, who is in Tallinn on an official visit, had a meeting with Eiki Nestor, the Speaker of the Parliament of Estonia (Riigikogu).
The interlocutors agreed that the centuries old relations between Armenia and Estonia have broad perspectives for development, in this context particularly highlighting the importance of undertaking steps towards fully realizing the potential of parliamentary diplomacy. Both sides underscored the positive experience in the sphere of information technologies and culture and stated that these spheres might receive a new quality and new substance within the framework of interparliamentary cooperation.
The Foreign Minister of Armenia and the Speaker of Estonian Parliament touched upon the Armenia-EU relations, with this regard highlighting the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement, which opens new prospects of cooperation both in Armenia-EU relations and in bilateral format with the EU member states. Minister Mnatsakanyan emphasized the role of the Eastern Partnership as an effective platform for working together and collaborating towards the outlined objectives.
Presenting the recent political developments in Armenia and the priorities of the Government's development agenda Minister Mnatsakanyan noted that the Government has proved its commitment to implement the reforms initiated on the basis of the popular mandate. The Foreign Minister of Armenia particularly emphasized active engagement of youth, women, civil society in the processes unfloding in Armenia.
