The Meeting of Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Latvia

On February 15, Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan, who is in Munich on a working visit, met with Edgars Rinkevičs, the Foreign Minister of Latvia.

FM Mnatsakanyan congratulated Edgars Rinkevičs on the occasion of assuming the office of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and wished him all of the success in his important mission.

The interlocutors discussed a wide range of issues on the Armenian-Latvian agenda, emphasizing the commitment to take practical steps towards the enhancement of political dialogue and promotion of economic cooperation. In this context, Zohrab Mnatsakanyan and Edgars Rinkevičs attached importance to the high-level mutual visits and the activities of intergovernmental committee. The two sides identified as the primary fields of cooperation the information technologies, e-governance, banking, and food security, underlining the importance of initiating joint programmes directed towards expertise-sharing.

The Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Latvia exchanged thoughts on preserving the positive dynamics and further synchronization of cooperation in the multilateral platforms.

Referring to the Armenia-EU relations, Zohrab Mnatsakanyan emphasized the importance of the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement for the reform processes in Armenia and promotion of the development agenda of the government. FM Mnatsakanyan added that the Agreement is a productive tool not only for Armenia-EU cooperation, but also for multilateral and bilateral cooperation with EU member states.

During the meeting, the Foreign Ministers also exchanged thoughts on a number of regional issues.

Referring to the position of the Armenian side on the process of peaceful settlement of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the head of the foreign political office of the Republic of Armenia highlighted the importance of creating and strengthening of an environment conducive to peace.
