On April 9th, by the invitation of School of Law and Politics at Cardiff University, Arman Kirakossian, the Ambassador of Armenia to the United Kingdom, delivered a lecture on the Armenian Genocide.

In his remarks Arman Kirakossian reflected on the first Genocide of the 20th century, the concept and definition of "genocide" term within the context of development of the international law, the efforts of Armenia for advancing the prevention agenda within the UN and other international platforms, the history and current state of Armenian-Turkish relationships.

The Ambassador underlined that Armenia remains committed to the process of the international recognition of the Armenian Genocide. In this context he expressed gratitude to the political and spiritual leaders of Wales for recognition and condemnation of the Armenian Genocide by the National Assembly and the Church of the country.

Answering the questions of the audience, Arman Kirakossian touched upon the facts of deportation and killings of Armenians in the Ottoman Empire, destruction of the Armenian cultural heritage, the prospects of the international recognition of the Armenian Genocide.

Professors, academicians, political scientists and students of the Cardiff University, as well as Patrick Thomas, Vicar of Christ Church Carmarthen and Chancellor of St David’s Cathedral, and the author of books "From Carmarthen to Karabakh: A Welsh discovery of Armenia" and "Remembering the Armenian Genocide" attended the event.

Ambassador Kirakossian donated to the library of Cardiff University a number of books on the history of the Armenian people and the Armenian Genocide in particular.

Arman Kirakossian also visited the Armenian Genocide Memorial in the garden of the Temple of Peace, unveiled in 2007.
