Events in Ottawa, dedicated to the 104th Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide

On the occasion of the 104th Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide a number of events took place in Ottawa under the auspices of the Embassy of Armenia and Canadian Armenian organizations.

The first gathering took place on April 23, when representatives from the Armenian community and organisations walked with candles in the streets of Ottawa. They started at the Human Rights statue in central Ottawa and proceded towards the Embassy of Armenia, where a candlelight ceremony was held in front of the Armenia Immortal Monument.

The main events took place on April 24: they started in the Embassy of Armenia, where in the presence of clergymen of the Armenian churches, and numerous representatives of the Armenian community, a prayer was held after which wreaths were laid near the Armenia Immortal statue.

Then an official event, dedicated to the 104rd Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, took place in front of the Parliament of Canada, where clergymen, members of Parliament, representatives of the Canadian Foreign Ministry and representatives of the Diplomatic Corps, politicians and numerous representatives of the Armenian community were present.

The Counsellor of the Embassy of Armenia Ara Mkrtchian, the leader of the Canadian side of the Armenia-Canada parliamentary friendship group, Member of Parliament Bryan May, LPC, the leader of the Conservative Party of Canada Andrew Scheer, the representatives of other political movements represented in parliament, representatives of the Armenian National Committee of Canada and a number of national minorities residing in Canada delivered speeches. Following this event, the Armenian community marched on the streets of Ottawa towards the Embassy of Turkey.
