Meeting of the heads of Foreign Ministries of Armenia and Lebanon
25 September, 2019Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan within the margins of the 74th Session of the UN General Assembly met Gebran Bassil, Foreign Minister of Lebanon.
The Foreign Ministers commended the active dialogue and contacts at different levels, covering a wide range of areas, and expressed readiness to make joint efforts to strengthen and enhance traditionally friendly relations between the two countries and peoples. In this regard, the role of the Armenian community, which has been a major contributor to the social and political life of Lebanon and served as a bridge between the two countries, was emphasized.
Foreign Ministers Mnatsakanyan and Basil exchanged views on a number of issues on the international and regional agenda, as well as on developments in the Middle East. Foreign Minister of Armenia presented to his Lebanese counterpart Armenia's engagement in peacekeeping missions in Lebanon and humanitarian missions in the region.
In the context of religious freedom and discrimination, Minister Mnatsakanyan reiterated Armenia's commitment to contribute to the international community's efforts to secure religious freedom and to fight against the exploitation of religion and belief for political purposes.
