Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan's phone conversation with Foreign Minister of Canada

On June 12, Foreign Minister of Armenia Zohrab Mnatsakanyan held a phone conversation with his Canadian counterpart François-Philippe Champagne.

The Foreign Ministers discussed the situation in the world due to COVID-19 emphasizing the need for international cooperation and joint efforts in order to overcome it. Zohrab Mnatsakanyan briefed his counterpart on the programs implemented by the Government of Armenia aimed at addressing social-economic consequences of the pandemic. In this context, Minister Mnatsakanyan highly appreciated the readiness of international partners to support Armenia and the Armenian people.

The Ministers touched upon a wide range of issues of bilateral agenda, commending the established dialogue at different levels. Both sides expressed readiness to take practical steps towards maintaining the positive dynamics of the Armenian-Canadian relations and including new spheres of cooperation. In this regard, they exchanged views on expanding cooperation in the spheres of creative education, information technologies, agribusiness, food security and others.

The interlocutors touched upon the effective cooperation and prospects of its expansion based on mutual support in the framework of international organizations.

Zohrab Mnatsakanyan briefed François-Philippe Champagne on the priorities of Armenian Chairmanship in United Nations Commission on the Status of Women and commended Canada's efforts towards the implementation of “Women, Peace and Security” agenda, protection of  women's rights and rights of children in armed conflicts. Foreign Minister of Armenia also touched upon the steps taken by Armenia for promoting Genocide prevention agenda, highly appreciating the close cooperation established with the Canadian side.

During the phone conversation, the interlocutors also discussed a number of urgent issues of international and regional agenda.
