Foreign Minister of Armenia Zohrab Mnatsakanyan met with the members of the Congressional Caucus on Armenian Issues of the US House of Representatives
24 October, 2020On October 24, within the framework of the working visit of the United States, Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan held an online meeting with the Co-Chairs of the Congressional Caucus on Armenian Issues Frank Pallone, Jackie Speier and Vice- Chair Adam Schiff.
The interlocutors touched upon the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone resulting from the Azerbaijani aggression. Zohrab Mnatsakanyan drew the attention of Members of the Congress to the facts of deliberate targeting of civilian population and infrastructure of Artsakh, the numerous violations of international humanitarian law and the war crimes committed by the Azerbaijani armed forces during the hostilities.
The Foreign Minister of Armenia also expressed concern over Turkey's direct involvement in the aggression of the Azerbaijani side, which is manifested both by the latter's immediate military participation and the transfer of foreign terrorist fighters from the Middle East to Azerbaijan. According to the Minister, the Azerbaijani leadership’s decision to turn its country into a hotbed of international terrorism poses a serious threat to regional security.
Minister stressed that this military aggression against Artsakh unleashed by Azerbaijani side is a threat to the existential physical security of the peaceful population of Artsakh, which makes it imperative for the international community to undertake resolute and immediate steps against it.
The interlocutors agreed that urgent measures should be undertaken to establish a ceasefire regime and to address the steps of Azerbaijan aimed at deploying foreign terrorist fighters into the region.
