17 December, 2020

On December 17, ahead of the third session of the Armenia-EU Partnership Council to be held in Brussels, Foreign Minister of Armenia Ara Aivazian had a tête-à-tête meeting with Josep Borrell, the Vice-President of the European Commission, High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.

The sides stressed that holding a regular session of the Partnership Council is a good opportunity to summarize the achievements within the framework of the Armenia-EU partnership and to hold substantive discussions on further activities and projects.

One of the main topics of the meeting between the Foreign Minister and the EU High Representative was regional security and stability. Touching upon the Turkish-Azerbaijani aggression against the people of Artsakh and the following consequences, the Foreign Minister of Armenia considered the violation of fundamental values of the initiative by the Eastern Partnership member state unacceptable, setting a dangerous precedent of the attempts to settle conflicts by force with the active support of Turkey.

The Foreign Minister of Armenia noted with deep concern that Azerbaijan's actions with the direct involvement of Turkey and Turkish backed foreign terrorist fighters pose a threat to the security environment in the Eastern Neighborhood region, and could result in catastrophic consequences for regional security.

Both sides highlighted the importance of addressing the issues of the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairmanship.
