The meeting of Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan with the NATO Secretary General’s Special Representative for the Caucasus and Central Asia
21 October, 2021On October 21, Foreign Minister of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan received the NATO Secretary General’s Special Representative for the Caucasus and Central Asia Javier Colomina Píriz.
The interlocutors commended the level of political dialogue between Armenia and NATO. Foreign Minister of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan emphasized the implementation of the Individual Partnership Action Plan as an effective tool for the development of cooperation between Armenia and NATO. Javier Colomina Píriz noted that Armenia is a reliable partner of the North Atlantic Alliance.
Continuous involvement of Armenian peacekeeping units in international peacekeeping missions was touched upon. Javier Colomina Píriz thanked Armenia for its participation in NATO peacekeeping operations.
Minister Mirzoyan also stressed the importance of the implementing the provisions of UN Security Council Resolution N.1325 "Women, Peace and Security", and the fulfilment of the National Action Plan by the Government of Armenia in this regard.
During the meeting, the issues on international and regional security were discussed. Minister Mirzoyan drew the interlocutor's attention to the situation resulting from the aggression against Artsakh unleashed by Azerbaijan with Turkey’s participation. In this context, he stressed the need for a lasting and comprehensive settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict under the mandate of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairmanship.
The sides also highlighted the importance of maintaining the principle of non-use of force for settlement of disputes.
