The phone conversation of the Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Sweden
11 January, 2023On January 11, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan had a phone conversation with Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Sweden Tobias Billström.
Ararat Mirzoyan congratulated his counterpart upon assuming the presidency of the EU Council.
The sides discussed a number of issues on regional security.
Minister Mirzoyan briefed the interlocutor on the details of Azerbaijan’s blockade of the only road connecting Nagorno-Karabakh to Armenia and the rest of the world - the Lachin Corridor, and the resulting humanitarian crisis. The Foreign Minister of Armenia noted that the actions of Azerbaijan are a violation of the obligations undertaken by it in the November 9 Trilateral Statement, as well as a gross violation of international humanitarian law.
Ararat Mirzoyan underlined the need for immediate steps by the international community to prevent Azerbaijan's policy of ethnic cleansing of 120 thousand Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh.
During the phone conversation, the EU monitoring mission which was completed on December 19, 2022, was touched upon. Minister Mirzoyan highly appreciated the work of the mission.
