On March 8 in Cairo Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan met with the Pope of the Coptic Orthodox Church of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of Saint Mark, Pope Tawadros II. The meeting took place in the framework of the minister's visit to Egypt to participate in the session of the Council of the League of Arab States.

Pope Tawadros emphasized the significant role of the Armenian community in Egypt, which is as a unique bridge between peoples representing two ancient civilisations - the Armenians and Arabs.

The strong ties between the leaders of the Armenian and Coptic Christian churches, based on common values and mutual respect, were also mentioned.

The issues of peace and stability in the Middle East and the South Caucasus were touched upon. Ararat Mirzoyan briefed his interlocutor on the core problems of the Nagorno-Karabakh issue, as well as the vision of the Armenian side on their resolution. Special attention was given to the humanitarian challenges resulting from the blockade of the Lachin corridor by Azerbaijan.
