Meeting of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia with the acting President of the Senate of Romania
03 April, 2023On April 3 in Bucharest Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan had a meeting with Alina Ștefania Gorghiu, the acting President of the Senate of Romania.
During the meeting, the interlocutors touched upon the issues of the Armenian-Romanian bilateral agenda. The role of parliamentary diplomacy in the development of relations between the two countries was emphasized. The importance of effective cooperation and mutual visits between the friendship groups in the parliaments of the two countries was noted as well.
Both sides highlighted the important contribution of the Armenian community in Romania to the strengthening of ties between the two nations, and since independence, also between the two countries in various fields. In this context, Minister Mirzoyan commended the attitude shown by the Romanian authorities towards the Armenian cultural and religious heritage, including the adoption of the law "On declaring October 12 as the Day of the Armenian language, alphabet and culture in Romania".
During the meeting, the interlocutors touched upon issues related to regional security and stability.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia presented to the acting president of the Senate of Romania the current challenges to establishing peace in the South Caucasus, the humanitarian problems resulting from Azerbaijan’s failure to comply with the Statement of November 9, 2020, including the illegal detention of Armenian prisoners of war. Minister Mirzoyan touched upon the vision and efforts of the Armenian side to the normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan and to finding fair solutions to the key problems of the Nagorno-Karabakh issue.
Touching upon the blockade of the Lachin corridor by Azerbaijan, Ararat Mirzoyan stressed the imperative of implementing the decision made by the International Court of Justice on February 22, unblocking the corridor without preconditions and preventing the policy of ethnic cleansing by Azerbaijan in Nagorno-Karabakh.
