The phone conversation of the Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Portugal
11 May, 2023On May 11 Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan had a phone conversation with João Gomes Cravinho, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Portugal.
The interlocutors exchanged views on issues of the Armenian-Portuguese bilateral agenda, touching upon the importance of high-level visits in maintaining the dynamics of political dialogue as well as the prospects for the development of cooperation between the two countries in the fields of trade, economy, culture, and information technology. Issues related to cooperation on international platforms as well as to the Armenia-EU partnership were also touched upon.
Regional security and stability issues were discussed during the phone conversation. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia touched upon the recent developments in the normalization process of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Minister Mirzoyan stressed that Azerbaijan's continuous aggressive policy and provocations are aimed at disrupting the efforts towards the negotiation process, a demonstration of which were the provocative actions of May 11 against the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia.
Minister Mirzoyan also briefed his interlocutor on the humanitarian situation in Nagorno-Karabakh resulting from Azerbaijan's illegal blockade of the Lachin corridor, emphasizing that Azerbaijan's actions not only violate the Trilateral statement of November 9, 2020, and the norms of international humanitarian law, but also are a clear contempt for the targeted appeals of international partners and the decision of the International Court of Justice.
