The meeting of the Foreign Minister of Armenia with the Chairman of the Portugal-Armenia Friendship Group

On July 14, Foreign Minister of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan met with Nathalie Teixeira de Oliveira, the Chairman of the Armenia-Portugal Friendship Group.

During the meeting, a number of issues on the development of cooperation between Armenia and Portugal in various areas were discussed. Parallel to the political dialogue, the perspectives of cooperation in the economic, educational, cultural spheres and trade as well as the expansion of the legal framework were emphasized. 

The interlocutors stressed the role of parliamentary diplomacy in the advancement of the bilateral agenda, emphasizing in this context the importance of effective cooperation of friendship groups operating in the parliaments of the two countries, as well as mutual visits and possible initiatives.

The agenda of the meeting also included topics of the Armenia-EU partnership, the large-scale democratic reforms in Armenia, effective cooperation and progress made in that direction.

Touching upon the security situation in the South Caucasus, Minister Mirzoyan briefed his interlocutor on the vision of the Armenian side regarding normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, as well as the details of the humanitarian crisis in Nagorno-Karabakh resulting from the blockade of the Lachin corridor by Azerbaijan.

Ararat Mirzoyan emphasized the inadmissibility of Azerbaijan's policy of resolving issues through the use of force and the threat of use of force, as well as the imperative to open the Lachin corridor, enshrined in the legally binding Orders of the International Court of Justice of February 22 and July 6.
