14 August, 2023

On August 14, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan had a telephone conversation with Gordan Grlić Radman, the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Croatia.

In continuation of the previous discussions, including those held within the framework of the Dubrovnik Forum in July, Minister Mirzoyan briefed his counterpart on the deepening humanitarian crisis in Nagorno-Karabakh resulting from Azerbaijan’s illegal blockade of the Lachin corridor, the violations of fundamental rights of 120,000 people in Nagorno-Karabakh, including vulnerable groups, and the unfolded extremely difficult conditions.

Ararat Mirzoyan highlighted the urgency of taking additional steps on various platforms,  in order to immediately restore free movement in both directions through the Lachin corridor in line with the Orders of the International Court of Justice of February 22 and July 6, and prevent Azerbaijan’s real intention of ethnic cleansing in Nagorno-Karabakh. Minister Mirzoyan informed that Armenia appealed to the United Nations Security Council with a request to convene an emergency meeting.

The Foreign Minister of Armenia reiterated Armenia’s constructive approach on establishing stability in the region, nevertheless stressing that  by continuously exacerbating the humanitarian situation in Nagorno-Karabakh Azerbaijan is undermining the political process and the efforts of both Armenia and the international community.
