The Meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Armenia and Germany
21 September, 2023On September 21, in New York, within the framework of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan had a meeting with Annalena Baerbock, Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs of Germany.
The situation in Nagorno-Karabakh was at the core of the meeting. Ararat Mirzoyan noted that, following the 9-month-long blockade, the aggression unleashed by Azerbaijan against the people of Nagorno-Karabakh on September 19 clearly demonstrates Baku's intention to subject Nagorno-Karabakh to ethnic cleansing. In this context, the imperative of deterring Azerbaijan's maximalist and aggressive behaviour through the implementation of urgent measures and the use of existing mechanisms by international partners, including the EU and its member states, was emphasized. The imperative to prevent atrocity crime in Nagorno-Karabakh, as well as the importance of addressing the rights and security issues of the people of Nagorno-Karabakh in the context of lasting peace in the region, was emphasized.
Both sides also emphasized the unacceptability of solving existing problems through the use of force and the threat of force.
