On September 22, in New York, within the framework of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly, Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia Vahe Gevorgyan had a meeting with Alice Wairimu Nderitu, UN Under-Secretary-General and Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide.

Presenting the situation unfolded as a result of the aggression unleashed by Azerbaijan on September 19, Vahe Gevorgyan noted that the Azerbaijani attack, accompanied by deliberate shelling of the civilian population and infrastructure, as well as Azerbaijan's illegal blockade of the Lachin corridor during the previous 10 months, clearly demonstrate Azerbaijan's explicit intention to complete the ethnic cleansing of the people of Nagorno-Karabakh.

In this context, the importance of the efficient implementation of the relevant Genocide Prevention UN mechanisms was highlighted aimed at preventing mass atrocity crimes in Nagorno-Karabakh.
