Answer of the MFA Spokesperson to the question of "Armenpress" news agency
17 October, 2023Question. We have been informed that Armenia provides support to Slovenia. Could you present some details of that decision?
Answer. As you already know, at the beginning of August, Slovenia faced the largest natural disaster in its recent history with devastating consequences: the floods affected almost two-thirds of the country. Attaching importance to an adequate response to natural disasters, and, if necessary, coordination of efforts to combat them, back in August this year, during his visit to Slovenia and the meeting with his Slovenian counterpart Foreign Minister of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan expressed Armenia's willingness to assist Slovenia in overcoming the consequences of the flood. The helping hand extended by Armenia symbolizes both the importance of mutual support and political solidarity in similar situations also faced by Armenia, based on universal considerations, as well as the developing cooperation between the two countries.
We would like also to remind that on October 15, 2022, exactly one year ago, with the assistance of the Slovenian Government, particularly the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, the Slovenian organization “Enhancing Human Security" (ITF) implemented the program "Psychological-social rehabilitation of children of the armed conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh", as a result of which 11 children were received at Debeli Rtič health resort and medical center in Slovenia. This was the first program implemented as a result of cooperation, which was followed by the program for children from the border settlements of Armenia from August 26 to September 3, 2023. The children had the opportunity to participate in various educational and training programs and activities at the Red Cross Health and Youth Resort of Slovenia.
At the beginning of the above-mentioned second program, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia visited Slovenia, including the mentioned rehabilitation center, where the Minister got acquainted with the activities of the center and the possibilities of cooperation. I would like to add that this cooperation is continuous. On October 5, Tomaž Lovrenčič, the director of the Slovenian organization "Enhancing Human Security" (ITF) arrived in Yerevan. During the discussions with the respective authorities of Armenia, the positive impact of the programs implemented for the children was commended, and issues of organizing the new phase and other programs were discussed.
