7th Meeting of the Armenia-EU Joint Visa Facilitation Committee

The 7th Meeting of the Armenia-EU Joint Visa Facilitation Committee was held on 19 October. The meeting was co-chaired by Ara Margaryan, the Head of the European Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, and Antoine Savary, the Deputy Head of the Visa Policy Unit of the European Commission. The meeting was also attended by the representatives of the relevant bodies of the Republic of Armenia, EU delegation in Armenia and consular departments of the EU member states. 

During the meeting, the Armenian side raised some issues concerning the implementation of the Armenia-EU Visa Facilitation Agreement, specifying the provisions that have not yet been implemented. The complaints received from the citizens of the Republic of Armenia were presented in detail, while the positive indicators of cooperation in the areas of readmission process and the recent progress achieved by Armenia were highlighted.

The European side, in its turn, presented the arguments mainly related to the workload of Embassies and the activities of travel agencies operating in Armenia. At the same time, the European side expressed readiness to seek joint solutions to improve the situation.

Ara Margaryan also referred to the need to start a dialogue on the Armenia-EU visa liberalization process, noting that the issue is among the priorities of the Armenian Government.
