18 December, 2023

On December 18, Ambassador Tigran Balayan, Head of the Mission of Armenia to the EU, presented his credentials to Charles Michel, President of the European Council.

President Michel wished Ambassador Balayan a successful tenure, stressing the importance of the initiatives aimed at promoting the Armenia-European Union partnership and reiterating his support for them.

Tigran Balayan expressed his gratitude for  kind wishes and noted that Armenia is determined to spare no effort to upgrade the partnership with the European Union and its member states to a qualitatively new level.

Emphasizing and commending personal efforts of Charles Michel towards establishment of peace in South Caucasus the Ambassador emphasized that Azerbaijan’s  flagrant violations of the agreements reached within the Brussels format and the lack of adequate consequences ultimately led to the complete ethnic cleansing of Nagorno-Karabakh. Therefore, it is necessary to take steps towards the implementation of all legally binding Orders of the ICJ by Azerbaijan and its return to the negotiation table.

The sides also exchanged views on the delimitation process and the unblocking of communications and roads. In this context Ambassador Balayan presented the "Crossroads of Peace" project of the Government of Armenia and highlighted the importance of its inclusion in the EU’s "Global Gateway" initiative․

Concluding the meeting, President Michel asked to convey his greetings and best wishes to Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and President Vahagn Khachaturyan․
