On February 14, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan had a meeting with Claude Wiseler, the President of the Luxembourg Chamber of Deputies. The members of the Bureau of the Parliament and Foreign Relations Committee also took part in the meeting.

Both sides emphasized the role of parliamentary diplomacy in the dynamic development of high-level political dialogue between Armenia and Luxembourg.

The President of the Parliament of Luxembourg and the Foreign Minister of Armenia, recalling the previous discussion in January 2022, emphasized that the attacks on the sovereignty of the Republic of Armenia continue to be seen as attacks towards democracy, that the challenges in this matter continue and make active cooperation with like-minded partners the imperative of the day.

Minister Mirzoyan thanked the Parliament of Luxembourg for its principled, fair position and support on issues of priority for Armenia, including humanitarian ones.

The Foreign Minister of Armenia briefed on the latest developments in the security situation in the South Caucasus. Ararat Mirzoyan touched upon Armenia’s approaches to the key issues of the draft treaty on the normalization of Armenia-Azerbaijan relations, which are based on fundamental principles well-known to the civilized world. The Foreign Minister of Armenia stressed the importance of restraining the steps aimed at destabilizing the situation in the region and continuing the negotiation process.

Ararat Mirzoyan answered questions of interest to the parliamentarians, including the unblocking of regional communications, the Armenia-EU partnership, addressing the needs and rights of the forcibly displaced Armenian population as a result of ethnic cleansing in Nagorno-Karabakh, ensuring the return of persons that are still kept by Azerbaijan in captivity.

The parliamentarians highly appreciated the decision of the Government of the Republic of Armenia regarding the opening of the diplomatic representation office of Armenia in Luxembourg, characterizing it as an expression of close friendship.
