Meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Armenia and the Netherlands

On May 17, in Strasbourg the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan had a meeting with Hanke Bruins Slot, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The meeting took place within the framework of the 133rd Session of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe.

The interlocutors emphasized that with joint efforts, through active political dialogue, it was possible to build a broad bilateral agenda. The Ministers discussed the prospects of further deepening the cooperation, both bilaterally and on the platform of the European Union. In the case of the latter, views were exchanged on the need to use the existing toolkit more effectively, including the need to launch the Visa Liberalization dialogue.

"Armenia is taking clear steps in the direction of democratic reforms, as well as towards the maximum deepening of partnership with the EU, and on this path we greatly value the continuous active cooperation with the Netherlands, which shares the same principles and values," emphasized the Foreign Minister of Armenia.

Regional issues were also discussed at the meeting.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia briefed his Dutch counterpart on the approaches of Armenia regarding the process of normalization relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan following the negotiations on the draft peace treaty, held on May 10-11 in Almaty. Minister Mirzoyan emphasized the importance of mutual recognition of territorial integrity and ensuring maximum clarity in the process of border delimitation on the basis of the 1991 Alma-Ata Declaration.
