Meeting of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia with the Speaker of the Parliament of Estonia
27 June, 2024On June 27, within the framework of a working visit, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan met with the Speaker of the Riigikogu (Parliament) of Estonia Lauri Hussar. The Chair of the Armenia-Estonia parliamentary friendship group, Marti Rydma also participated in the meeting.
The interlocutors discussed the issues of bilateral agenda as well as regional developments.
“The relations between our two countries and peoples are based on historical ties, friendship, valuing fundamental principles, and in the current period full of challenges, further deepening of these ties is more important than ever,” stated Minister Mirzoyan.
The interlocutors commended the dynamics of high-level mutual visits between Armenia and Estonia as evidence of expanding relations, including in terms of parliamentary diplomacy. In this context, the active interaction of parliamentary friendship groups operating on both sides was highlighted.
Minister Mirzoyan presented the process of democratic reforms in Armenia, and the successes, also thanking Estonia for the support shown on that path. "The citizens of Armenia have made their choice, and the government is determined to continue the reforms, including in close cooperation with like-minded partners," Ararat Mirzoyan added.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia and the Speaker of the Parliament of Estonia also exchanged thoughts on the agenda of the partnership between the Republic of Armenia and the EU and the steps taken in the direction of deepening relations, taking into account the European aspirations of the citizens of the Republic of Armenia.
The interlocutors also touched upon the regional security issues. Minister Mirzoyan presented to the interlocutor the process of normalization of relations with the neighbors, including the importance of signing a peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
