Discussion at the Estonian International Center for Defense and Security
28 June, 2024On June 27, in Tallinn, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan participated in a round-table discussion at the International Center for Defense and Security (ICDS).
The discussion was attended by representatives from expert circles and heads of diplomatic missions accredited in Estonia.
In his introductory remarks, Minister Mirzoyan outlined Armenia's foreign policy priorities amid changing geopolitical conditions, presented the current challenges and the steps taken to address them.
Minister Mirzoyan provided a comprehensive overview of the current security landscape in the South Caucasus, highlighting recent developments and trends. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia emphasized Armenia’s vision and efforts for establishing stability and lasting peace in the region, as well as the ongoing challenges.
The process of normalization of relations with Türkiye was touched upon, including the agreements achieved through dialogue and the importance of their implementation.
Touching upon the process of normalization of Armenia-Azerbaijan relations, Minister Mirzoyan emphasized the importance of signing the peace treaty and continuing the delimitation process based on the Alma-Ata Declaration of 1991.
Participants exchanged views on the prospects of deepening Armenia's partnership with the EU and its member states. The discussion highlighted joint efforts to enhance Armenia's resilience, promote democratic reforms, and emphasized the stabilizing role of the EU monitoring mission in Armenia.
In the context of broader geographical engagement, the possibilities provided by the Armenia-US strategic partnership were also touched upon, along with the development of North-South and East-West economic and transport connectivity, and the implementation of projects under the "Crossroads of Peace" initiative. "We have received positive reactions from our international partners regarding this initiative, which also underscores Armenia's commitment to the peace agenda and ensuring sustainable development in the region,".
The Foreign Minister of Armenia also answered several other questions of the attendees.
