Meeting between Foreign Minister of Armenia and Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia
03 July, 2024On July 3, within the framework of the official visit to Georgia, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan had a meeting with Shalva Papuashvili, Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia. The meeting was also attended by George Volsky, First Deputy Speaker of the Parliament and head of the parliamentary friendship group with Armenia.
The interlocutors discussed issues of the bilateral agenda and regional developments.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia emphasized: “Armenian-Georgian friendship has a centuries-old history. Today, at this stage, we are witnessing the development of a strategic partnership between our two sovereign states. I am confident that through joint efforts, we will achieve new and tangible results for the benefit of our people and the prosperity of the region.”
Alongside the deepening of high-level political dialogue, Ararat Mirzoyan and Shalva Papuashvili discussed the further development of close cooperation in various fields, including economy, culture and fostering people-to-people contacts. In this context, they also emphasized the role of parliamentary diplomacy, particularly the active cooperation of inter-parliamentary friendship groups.
Views were exchanged on issues of cooperation with the European Union.
Touching upon issues of regional stability, Minister Mirzoyan briefed the Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia on the developments in the normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, including the processes of border delimitation and the signing of the peace treaty.
Highlighting the potential of being a bridge between East and West, as well as North and South, Foreign Minister of Armenia stressed the importance of implementing the “Crossroads of Peace” project. He noted that this initiative could significantly enhance the prospects for sustainable peace in the South Caucasus.
