Meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Belgium
10 July, 2024On July 10, in Washington D.C., Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan had a meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Belgium Hadja Lahbib.
The interlocutors touched upon the issues on the cooperation agenda between the two countries as well as regional developments.
“We have an active political dialogue with Belgium, we have developed a strong basis for cooperation and see prospects for further deepening the cooperation in bilateral, EU and multilateral formats” emphasized the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia. Joint efforts aimed at expanding bilateral cooperation in key areas were touched upon.
The Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Armenia and Belgium thoroughly discussed issues of the Armenia-EU agenda. Minister Mirzoyan stressed that Armenia attaches great importance to the deepening of cooperation with the EU, the formation of a new partnership agenda, including aimed at strengthening Armenia's resilience. In that context, the effective use of existing tools, the upcoming plans, as well as the functioning of the EU monitoring mission in Armenia were touched upon.
Views were exchanged on regional issues. Ararat Mirzoyan presented Armenia’s efforts aimed at establishing lasting peace in the South Caucasus, including through the normalization of relations with its neighbors. Referring to the process between Armenia and Azerbaijan, Minister Mirzoyan presented the latest developments in border delimitation and concluding of the peace treaty, emphasizing the strong political will expressed by Armenia in finalizing the text and signing of the treaty.
In the context of unblocking regional communications, the "Crossroads of Peace" project, developed by the Government of Armenia, was touched upon.
