Meeting of Foreign Minister of Armenia with the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy

On December 4 in Malta on the sidelines of the OSCE Ministerial Council, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan had a meeting with the Vice President of the European Commission and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas.

At the beginning of the meeting, Minister Mirzoyan congratulated Kaja Kallas on assuming the position of EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, wishing her success during these challenging times.

The interlocutors commended the significant achievements recorded recently in deepening the partnership between Armenia and the EU, as well as the unprecedented dynamics in the development of relations, expressing their readiness to continue active cooperation towards building even a more ambitious agenda.

Ararat Mirzoyan and Kaja Kallas touched upon the main components of the Armenia-EU new partnership agenda. It was emphasized that, as a result of joint efforts, the Armenia-EU cooperation encompasses a wide range of areas of mutual interest, from people-to-people contacts and democratic reforms to dialogue on security issues. Among the tools being implemented, the role of the EU Monitoring Mission in ensuring stability along the Armenia-Azerbaijan border was particularly stressed.

Foreign Minister of Armenia and the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy also exchanged views on regional issues. 

Ararat Mirzoyan provided Kaja Kallas with a detailed overview of Armenia’s efforts towards establishing lasting peace in the South Caucasus, including the signing of the treaty on the normalization of relations with Azerbaijan. Issues on increasing connectivity through regional economy and transport communications were also touched upon.
