Political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Armenia and Canada

On December 6, political consultations between the Foreign Ministries of Armenia and Canada were held in Yerevan.

The delegation of Armenia was headed by Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia Paruyr Hovhannisyan, while the delegation of Canada was headed by Stephane Dion, Canada’s Prime Minister’s Special Envoy to the European Union and Europe, Ambassador of Canada to France and Monaco.

During the meeting, the interlocutors exchanged views on the positive dynamics in bilateral relations in recent years, emphasizing the high level of political dialogue between Armenia and Canada. The prospects of further developing the bilateral agenda as well as regional and security issues were touched upon. The parties also discussed the importance of enhancing Armenia-Canada bilateral cooperation in sectors of mutual interest.

Deputy Foreign Minister Paruyr Hovhannisyan commended Canada's position in support of the sovereignty, territorial integrity and democracy of the Republic of Armenia, as well as emphasized Canada’s role in the ongoing reforms in Armenia.

Paruyr Hovhannisyan also touched upon the steps undertaken by Armenia towards the establishment of peace in the South Caucasus, the recent developments in the normalization process of Armenia-Azerbaijan relations, as well as briefed his counterpart on the "Crossroads of Peace" project initiated by the Government of Armenia.
