MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS STATEMENT On the Counter-Terrorism Actions in Afghanistan

08 October, 2001

Today, the US authorities presented Armenia with the investigative evidence that has been gathered pertaining to the complicity of the Al Qaida organization in the terrorist acts of September 11. Armenia deeply regrets that despite diplomatic efforts, it was not possible to hand over the organizers of the September 11 terrorist events to the representatives of the US justice system.

Armenia again reaffirms its commitment to the coalition combatting against international terrorism, and remains convinced that international terrorism threatens not just individual states, but the entire civilized world. The struggle against such terrorism must be firm and persistent. At the same time, Armenia remains hopeful that military action will not lead to general instability in the region and the further deterioration of the condition of the peaceful population of Afghanistan.
