Statement by Ministry Spokesperson Dziunik Aghajanian on US Immigration Regulations

17 December, 2002
The US government, had as part of their security concerns, issued an order which would require that foreign nationals from certain countries, including Armenia, follow special registration regulations with the US Immigration and Naturalization Service.

We worked with the US administration to clarify the circumstances. It became apparent that there had been a misunderstanding and these issues do not in any way relate to Armenian citizens. As a result of our discussions, the US administration modified the regulation, and Armenia has been removed from the list.

The disbelief in our community was understandable in the face of such news.

Now, we are pleased that indeed there is no such policy regarding Armenian
nationals in the US.
